Welcome to Family Works

“Hutia te rito o te harakeke, kei whea te Komako e ko? Ki mai ki ahau, he aha te mea nui o te Ao, maku e ki atu – he tangata, he tangata, he tangata.”

“Tear out the heart of the flax, where will the Bellbird sit?  Ask me what is the most important thing in the world, I will tell you – it is people, it is people, it is people”.

Family Works services is about empowering communities, families/whanau to help themselves as they face the inevitable challenges of family life, and working in partnership with them so they can flourish to reach their full potential. And, we work from the values that:

  • We all need support at some stage in our lives

  • Strong, self-sufficient families are the best places to grow happy and healthy children

  • The family is the backbone of each and every community

  • The strength of each community are the people

We provide our own social services (counselling, social work interventions and education programmes) and also work collaboratively with local community groups and services depending on the indvidual or family/whanau needs.  Presbyterian Support Central has over a 100 year history of supporting communities in need.  We remain proud of the work we have done, and ever mindful of our commitments to our clients, past as well as present.

All Family Works services in New Zealand are guided by the following values:

  • Recognition of strengths inherent in everybody

  • Accessible and non-discriminating

  • Confident and competent

  • Recognised code of ethics

  • Respectful in dealing with children/tamariki

  • Recognition of the special place of Tangata Whenua

  • Recognition of a multi-cultural New Zealand
